This essay concerns with cultural anthropology course with a relation to the effect of black persons on race relations in United States of America. We believe that people around the world are same; they all have same desires, feelings, emotions and aspirations. But today’s anthropological studies have shown that such believes are wrong.
Anthropology is extensive methodological discipline, which came into existence in the 19th century, with the aim of extensive organized research, study and documentation of the physical, social, cultural and other diversities of people, past and present. It studies elementary, small-scale societies around the world. It is unique and technical due to its comparative, holistic and relativistic approaches of analysis and method of study. It is having similarity between other disciplines. There are four main branches of anthropology which are socio-cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, archeological anthropology and linguistic anthropology (Zerihun 2005). Each branch of anthropology is too vast and covers specialized areas of study within it. Anthropology provides us an insight into various ways and approaches of life of a society, thus helping us to understand the ideologies behind and basis for human behavior and activities.
A part of Socio- Cultural anthropology theories helps us to explain human culture, how culture works, why they are similar and different etc. These theories came into existence since late 19th and early 20th centuries in Europe and America. The various domains of socio-cultural theories are: social evolutionism, diffusionism, particualrism based on historical facts, and functionalism (Zerihun 2005).
Humans get their cultural values from the place where they live, hence it can be said that culture varies from place to place, so it is necessary to study these variations in order to get a better insight about the people’s living at a certain place (Zerihun 2005).
