In a taller hierarchy there is lesser autonomy, whereas in a flat hierarchy there are fewer levels in between leading to more autonomy in decision making (Griffin, 2015). However the intangible product such as service within their stores must also be considered as this can also affect business success (by affecting customer retention) as noted in research (Sivadas, & Baker-Prewitt, 2000).
