The time described in the book was a time when the stock market got a sudden boost and people became rich overnight. This sudden increase in wealth drove them mad and they started becoming corrupt morally and started being attracted to all the vices. All the characters of this novel depict this change in one way or the other. Gatsby and the narrator Nick are World War Veterans and they have seen life after the devastation of the world war and are out to make themselves successful in life. American dream, to start with was the hunt for true contentment and success[1]. A journey based on values which ended in true success; success which came as a result of hard work but in the novel, it is depicted that, the true definition of the American dream was changed and people of that time found contentment in making easy money by compromising with their moral and values.
