It is not clear what Mary actually wants and the focus was made on the family. The idea of Otherworld absolutely remained mysterious to the reader. What the reader gets to know of that world is from the description given by the fairy child and a brief insight by Mary through somnambulism. Still Mary was sceptical of leaving the earthly place despite the fact that she had welcomed the fairy child and yearned to leave this mortal world. This shows the deep-rootedness of Mary’s thought of otherworld. Moreover the plays also depict the age-long contradiction of desire and fear that human being always try to overcome.
