The object for the essay is the sculpture of Mother Mary from Royal Ontario Museum. The passage from “Feminist Interventions in the Histories of Art” by Griselda Pollock mainly speaks about condition of women in the field of art and history during medieval time period. It was the time, when the works of women were not considered at all as it was a male dominated society, so even if a woman tried something it was not taken seriously. Since there was no importance given to women in art and history and hence the history related to women found was also not very positive and clear.

There are a number of stories which are related to Mother Mary. Some considered her as Mother of God where there were many who were not ready to acknowledge her in that way. The people who did not believed that Mother Mary was the mother of God argued that she did not carry God Jesus in her womb. She just carried God’s human nature. This may be because if we study the history of art we will find that it is more inclined towards the male gender. All the study which has been done has been male dominated and a very few of female historians have given contribution to this filed. The male historians have had a tendency to remain biased which shows in their works too.
