The fourth news that has been published as title “Disagreement over the South China Sea worsen as China digs in” is enough to claim that political and diplomatic relations matter a lot while covering news. This coverage by The Economist has criticized China’s intervention without analysing the exact role played by China (The Economist, 2015). In contrast to that China Daily has patiently covered all the aspects with reasons of interventions. The point of difference here is that The Economist acted critically with respect to this news and criticized China for this but China daily has presented a neutral point of view. The similarity between both the reporting is that the background they have used to report the news is common. The fifth news that is also noticeable is “400,000 people to move to suburbs of Beijing “in China daily has focused on the aspect of “substantial progress” by 2017 and established the government’s long term vision, whereas The Economist did not give any explanation for this news and it made public ambiguous about the facts (Xinhua, 2015). This news was published in The Economist with meagre details that nobody can understand the actual agenda behind shifting of the people to suburbs on Beijing (The Economist, 2015). On observing both news carefully, it has been observed that the point of difference is relevance.
It is not relevant news for the whole world and thus, The Economist has not stressed much on it and just published a paragraph about it. China daily has explained the whole news with facts and figures. The point of similarity between these news is that they have mentioned the implications. The sixth example is from The Economist that has published a new about China’s company Alibaba. The headline of the news reads “Singles day: Bare and profligate, Preparations are under way for an orgy of online spending”. They have reported it with connection to Chinese leaders’ perspectives of encouraging the consumers to spend more. Whereas, China daily’s headline reads “Alibaba breaks record with $9b sales in 12 hours on Singles’ Day”. They have reported it with respect to the profits that Alibaba has made and the benefits that it could fetch to Economy of the country. Thus, the economist reported it with a very different perspective and nowhere mentioned anything related to the company’s profits. Thus, the point of difference is views towards the news and intentions of reporting. The intention of China Daily is to appraise the company and economic growth whereas the intention of The Economist is to critically cover the perspectives of leaders.
