In this part of the report, I attempt to discuss the reason which made me select this topic for the research. In the report, I have used the Taiwanese culture which comprises of materials, food, festivals and geography, etc. In the prime to collect the information for supporting the purpose of my research, I have interviewed a group of my friends from Taiwan who helped in understanding their pride to be a Taiwanese. In this interview session, the responses from the participants varied but aided in the deeper understanding of the topic of the research. In the course of my research, I even fidgeted with some silver wires to make some designs and was even succeeded, which became my primary motive for researching this topic. The reason which drove me to choose this topic to be researched is because I belong to Taiwan. Therefore, this report aided me to understand that though the people are driven to make their own interpretations about Taiwan, I should resort to defining my own experiences as part of the research instead of looking for inspirational materials from other authors and studies conducted. Therefore, I realized that my approach of exploring my own experiences and keeping it as the foundation stone of the further analysis is the most preferred and straightforward manner for initiating a conversation about Taiwan. Thus, this approach led me to proceed towards the idea development.

In the bid of understanding, my idea of selecting this topic for the study is to go back to my Taiwanese experience and understand the main reason for the purpose of the research. My research would familiarise me with the process of design and also depict my understanding of the Taiwanese culture. This aim of the research is achieved through the realization that the Taiwanese jewellery is self-reflexive and that designing a series of jewellery with the Taiwanese element would aid in adhering to the aesthetic characteristic of the jewellery. In the same light, this report intends to discuss that the viewers and the wearers should not only be concerned about the form and structure of jewellery but should be pleased to know the story behind that jewellery piece (Nasby, 2004). As young designers, our main purpose of making the designs is to showcase our expertise and knowledge through innovative ideas about aesthetics in the community. The design which I prepared is not only appealing to the wearer but its functional elements also impressed the wearer of the piece. The jewellery piece showcased the Taiwanese culture but not any redundant philosophies.
