Paris Workers or the Paris Travaux is the painting painted by Maximilien Luce in the year 1885. Oil on canvas painting display some of the construction workers, busy in their work at a construction site. His painting depicted neo-impressionism, which is a kind of technique where colors are mixed neither on the palette nor on the canvas. Color is placed as dots directly on canvas. His used his art and technique to deliver the idea of technical prominence and political ideologies. “With an understanding of the Neo-Impressionist movement, nineteenth century political ideals, and a thorough formal analysis, the significance his artwork becomes clear” (Reagan, 50). With the painting it could be understood that he had a deep understanding of the subject and great interest in painting the building workers, in order to display their societal roles.

Understanding the male identity is associated with the complex combination of biological, social, political and economic realities of that time. “Luce confronts us with modern masculinity and evolving political thought” (Reagan, 50). The Paris Workers is the artwork, where Luce displayed the daily life of the working class man. “His strong left-wing political convictions and hostility towards the authoritarianism of the Second Empire also found place in much of his works” (Reagan, 52).The topic of working male in the painting of Luce, has also been a recurring subject in Luce’s depictions. He was possibly sympathetic and sentimental towards them. The French paintings and artworks in the 19th century were mainly influenced by the changing wave of modernity, cultural shifts and human thoughts progression.
