Training refers to the process of developing the skills and abilities of the employees of an organization through pre designed programs.
Transfer of training refers to the ability of the trainee to use the techniques and skills acquired in the training period in the real situation or in the job he has to perform for the organization. Transfer can be negative and positive in case of negative transfer trainee starts performing poorly in comparison to the ways he use to perform before attending the training program whereas the effectiveness in performing the jobs gets increased if the transfer of training was in positive manner.
Transfer of training can be in different forms like near transfer is the situation in which the trainee applies the training techniques in the similar situation which were there in training sessions. In case of far transfers the trainees apply the training knowledge in the situations which are different from those in which he got trained. Horizontal transfer of training refers to the transfer of training in different situations but at the same level. Vertical transfer means the transfer of skills and knowledge gained in training sessions to organizational levels for the improvement of outcomes at organizational level.
The Carlos’ approach to training was good but it had some deficiencies that led to the improper transfer of training to the students.
The strengths of Carlos’ Training program:
Carlos had prior experience of teaching so he was aware of the behavior of the students and teachers; his experience helped him in developing his training programs according to the needs of the school participants. He did proper research while designing the programs and considered the outcomes of survey done by school on need analysis. The program was designed with all latest techniques of training like videos, exercises, games, brainstorming, active listening and upward communication. After each day training session, he conducted feedback session to know what the trainees learnt from that day’s training.
